Up next: CARMINA BURANA!

On Sunday, March 30 at 4 p.m. in the Kendall Main Stage Theater at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ, Princeton Pro Musica is excited to revive one of the most thrilling collaborations we’ve ever produced: Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana!
For the third time since 2017, we are overjoyed to bring this dramatic score to life with Mark Roxey’s exceptional Roxey Ballet company!
What is Carmina Burana?
Carmina Burana is a set of poems and songs written by Bavarian monks in the 13th century, uncovered in the early 19th century, and set for large mixed chorus, treble chorus, and orchestra by Carl Orff in 1936.
WAIT! DON’T GO!
Sure, these poems were written nearly 800 years ago, but they’re more relevant than you might think.
The driving forces of time and fortune. Springtime. Passion. Debauched carousing in the tavern. Satirical critiques of those with power.
These poems explore universally relatable themes, eschewing religious piety, and embracing instead some of our most basic and primal human experiences.
What is *our* Carmina Burana?
Imagine it: these deeply human, primal, passionate poems set to music. And not just any music, but pulsing, driving, rhythm-driven music.
Now imagine it performed by a mixed choir of 100 voices, a treble chorus, two grand pianos, and a veritable ton of percussion. Powerful, right?
ON TOP OF ALL THAT, imagine a cast of professional ballet dancers bringing these poems to life. As they leap and twirl across the stage, you will find yourself drawn into the world they create through movement. The addition of dance is what Carl Orff intended when he called this work a “scenic cantata.” It’s meant to be seen and heard.
We can tell you from past experience that it is a spectacular in the truest sense of the word.
We can also tell you that these performances sold out in both 2017 and 2019, so…

HAVEN’T I HEARD THIS SOMEWHERE BEFORE?
If you have had a television, a radio, an internet connection, or have attended the movies in the past three decades or so, you know Carmina Burana. After Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, few choral-orchestral works have made their way into popular culture more pervasively than this work.
Perhaps you recall this television commercial. Or this one. Or maybe you remember Sue Sylvester’s mad scene from the hit series Glee.
We can go on and on—like with this flash mob or with songs from artists like Meek Mill and Busta Rhymes—Carmina Burana is simply part of our culture.
MAKE YOUR PLANS TODAY!
As we did in 2017 and 2019, we expect this performance to sell out completely so don’t delay! Click here to secure a great seat (ALL the seats in this theater are great!), and we’ll see you on March 30!
